Within the past few years, Forbes Magazine has ranked Carrollton #12 in America's 25 Best Places to Move. With more than 1,230 acres of park land, Carrollton has more park land per capita than almost any other city in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Carrollton is currently revitalizing its downtown square area. The first project is located at the corner of Carroll Avenue and South Main Street. This site anchors the DART Green Line light rail station and will consist of 295 apartments spread over 4 buildings, 15,000 square feet of retail, and a five-level parking garage. According to the city, an average family could save nearly $9,000 per year by simply using the widely available mass transit network available to them.
Of the 30,000 households in the city, nearly 14,000 of them are multifamily units.
Top employers include Halliburton Energy Services, ACCOR North America, General Aluminum Corporation , Hilton Reservations Worldwide, Thomson Reuters, and the Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton. Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton is a full-service, 237-bed acute care facility. It offers 24-hour emergency services, a Weight Loss Surgery Program, Senior Health Care Center, Center for Breast Health, Asthma Center and a maternity program, among other program and care features.
Carrollton is served by four independent school districts: The Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD, Lewisville ISD, Plano ISD, and Dallas ISD. To serve its 132,000 residents, Carrollton has 19 schools within its city limits. Approximately 30% of the city's residents are under the age of 18, and of those individuals, most are under the age of 9. For that very reason, 9 of the schools in the city are either pre-kindergarten or Elementary schools.
